Tutorial Two: Digital Camera use an applications

This Tutorial was about digital Cameras and the various applications they have.
"A new technology is rarely superior to an old one in every feature" this quote is true for digital cameras.
The benefits of a digital camera are:
  • You can delete a picture right away after taking it
  • Digital Cameras have a range of settings for different conditions. eg. Sunny setting for a sunny day.
  • Its easy to share photos with a digital camera as you just upload them onto your computer and can then email photos to friends.
  • You can process digital images your self
  • Digital camera images have better storage capabilities.
  • Most digital cameras have a film option.
  • Doesn't cost as much to print digital images.

however the quality of some images on a cheap digital camera don't often have as good a resolution as on a film camera. On some digital cameras there is a slight delay after pressing the button to take a picture. Some photographers still prefer to use film cameras as they like the quality of the images better.

Digital Images can be stored in a wide range of ways. they can be stored onto a memory stick, on your camera, on a cellphone, on a ipod, on a CD, on your computer, and they can also be stored on websites on the Internet such as facebook. Digital images can be sent any where around the world using communications technology such as email, facebook, flickr, and bebo. this can cause some ethical issues though as to if you have consent to take or send a picture.

Occupational therapy has a wide range of uses for digital images. Some major benefits of using digital photography are that you can take pictures to record a clients progress or to enable a therapist to complete better housing modifications as taking pictures of/in a clients house will help.

Flickr.com is a online community that enables the user to upload digital images or videos which can then be shared with others around the world. people submitting photos put tags on them and this enables others to conduct searches for photos that are related on a particular topic. www.facebook.com is another online community and it offers similar services to flicker.

Digital and Optical zoom are the two different types of zooms on a camera. Optical zoom is often called the true zoom and is better then digital zoom because it produces better quality pictures. Optical zoom is where the camera acts like binoculars and zooms up on the image using the camera lens. Using the optical zoom results in good quality images that have not been stretched like in the digital zoom. Digital zoom is where the optics of a camera stay the same. So the image looks like it has come closer but i actual fact has been stretched which results in reduced image quality.

Mega pixel is often a measurement used in a camera. A mega pixel is equal to one million pixels and pixels are the tiny squares that make up an image. The more pixels a digital camera has the better quality images it can produce.
